is a detective and lives with his husband Jonathan (Declan Bennett).

Matthew returns to the evangelical community to attend his father's funeral. 

Before leaving the house, Jonathan

takes Matthew’s hand, touches the finger where his gold wedding ring shines, and says: “Don’t you dare take this off, OK?”.

While he searches for a way to solve a murder case in Devon, Matthew and his mother look to build bridges after years of silence.
